Block Island Fishing Charters

When people think of Rhode Island trophy bass, the first thing that comes to mind is Block Island. Block Island is well known in the northeast as THE mecca for cow striped bass. That’s why we dedicate a portion of our season every year to Block Island fishing charters. When we’re on the fish it can be some of the most phenomenal fishing you’ve ever experienced. Each drift can produce multiple hook ups of fish 30-50 lbs and over. Whether you’re planning a vacation on Block Island and want a pick up there or just want to fish these legendary waters, we’ll get you there.

How do you fish for striped bass at Block Island?

Block Island fishing charters are typically lights out, literally and figuratively! The fishing is great and we run these trips at night time. While the day time striped bass fishing is excellent, it’s even better at night. We head out just before sunset and fish some of the rips and shallow water boulder fields using top water plugs on light tackle rods. We’ll get some quality bass and gator bluefish doing this before the real fun even begins. Once the sun goes down we do some recon work to locate dense schools of fish. Once we’re honed in, we deploy live baits that the stripers can’t resist. It’s very common to have double and triple hook ups every drift on a night time Block Island fishing charter!

What else can I catch on a Block Island fishing charter?

Most people come to Block Island to fish for striped bass simply because of how incredible the fishing can be. The truth is, there’s a lot more than stellar striped bass fishing here. The boulder fields and ledges hold some enormous black sea bass. Along the southern and eastern sides of Block Island are ideal fluke fishing grounds. The fluke out here are much larger and more aggressive than the mainland fish. In addition to fishing for inshore species, the nearshore shark and tuna grounds are only a short steam from the island. While we don’t offer a specific package for this type of Block Island fishing charter, we can come up with a custom game plan. A common combo trip is a half day sharking or fluking and half night striped bass fishing. Give us a call and we’ll come up with a game plan that works best for you!

What to expect on a Block Island fishing charter?

A Block Island fishing charter can be intense. It’s about a 20 mile steam from Newport, going through the open ocean. We’ll be fishing at night, which means visibility is limited. Everyone on board will be given headlamps to use for hands free operation while fishing. Because we fish light tackle and can have multiple fish on at once, we’ve customized our charter boat for optimal efficiency while fishing at night. The weather can change in an instant at Block Island, so we only go when we know the weather is good and always pay attention while we’re out there. Safety is our top priority. On these trips, the Captain has the right to end a trip at any time if conditions become unsafe. Block Island fishing really is an unforgettable experience.
