Cape Cod Fishing Charters
During the fall we split our charter fishing operation between Newport Rhode Island and Cape Cod Massachusetts. While Cape Cod has plenty of different fishing opportunities like fishing for striped bass, fluke and haddock, we’re here for one reason, giant bluefin tuna. We fish commercially for giant bluefin tuna during September and October. Unlike other Cape Cod fishing charters, we still run sport fishing charters during commercial season. This type of fishing is hands down the most extreme type that we do. A Cape Cod giant bluefin tuna sport fishing charter is not for the faint of heart. These trips are from sun up to sun down and can sometimes involve a lot of moving around to find the tuna. Trusting the captain, crew and vessel are paramount when targeting giant bluefin tuna.
Where do you catch giant bluefin tuna?
The waters around Cape Cod are vast and often times it takes some traveling to locate where the fish are. Because of this we keep the boat on a trailer so we can move all around Cape Cod. This gives us a key advantage in finding fish faster so you have more time to enjoy your Cape Cod fishing charter. We typically launch from one of 3 points: Plymouth, MA, Green Harbor-Marshfield, MA, and the Bass River-Yarmouth, MA. These 3 points give us quick access to Cape Cod Bay, Stellwagen Bank, Provincetown and the eastern shore. With proper intel, hard work and dedication, Tall Tailz Charters is always in a prime position to catch these giant fish.
How do you catch giant blue fin tuna?
At Tall Tailz Charters our specialty is light tackle fishing. We try to apply this as our first method of attack. There’s nothing on the planet like the feeling of a giant blue fin tuna ripping line, making the reel scream while you hang on for dear life. We try and focus on jig and pop style Cape Cod fishing, especially if the fish are “smaller giants”. We will cast stick baits and soft artificials to busting fish on the surface or speed jig to raise the fish up. This is by far our favorite approach to landing giant blue fin tuna. If the jig and pop bite is slow we might troll for a bit to cover ground while looking for fish. At this point we’re ready to grind and work for these fish. We will anchor up, catch fresh live baits and slowly chum until we’ve drawn the fish in. We will set our live baits at various depths to cover most of the water column. For this approach we use heavy commercial rods on large conventional reels.
What to expect on a Cape Cod fishing charter?
For the crew at Tall Tailz Charters we consider Cape Cod our second home. We always feel at peace while running a Cape Cod deep sea fishing charter. We’re so thankful to have the opportunity to catch the undisputed king of the ocean, the giant blue fin tuna. In addition to tuna you’ll be sure to see plenty of whales, dolphins and sharks. We normally fish right beside these creatures as the tuna are often mixed in, targeting bait together. A giant bluefin tuna charter is definitely not for beginners. These types of fishing charters require patience, skill and stamina. With the right preparation, focus and hard work, one can have the experience of a lifetime; fighting the most incredible fish on the planet, the giant blue fin tuna. A Cape Cod fishing charter we’ll surely make a memory you will never forget. Contact us today for more information!
