Nearshore Tuna and Shark
We have a thriving tuna fishery in Rhode Island. The nearshore waters (anywhere from 20-60 miles offshore) are loaded with life from June-October. Each year we’re seeing more and more tuna. In these waters you can expect to see bluefin tuna ranging in sizes from small, recreational fish to true giants. Once the water has warmed up adequately we’ve also seen a great mix of yellowfin tuna in the mix coming in from the warm offshore eddies. We primarily ‘jig and pop’ for tuna, but we will sometimes troll, chunk and fish live baits. On these nearshore grounds we see plenty of mahi mahi along floating structure and high flyers. Other species we can expect to catch out here are white marlin, wahoo and a variety of different shark species. If you and your group want to target sharks specifically, we can do so. When shark fishing we always use fun, light tackle gear and typically don’t have to travel as far. Along with tuna, sharks and other pelagics, its almost guaranteed to get a bonus dolphin and whale show! These nearshore tuna and shark trips are a great way to experience offshore pelagic fishing while still making it back to the dock in time for happy hour! Due to the necessary weather windows needed, deposits for these trips are non-refundable. Some of these trips need to be rescheduled, which can result in multiple fishing days lost for the business. Your deposit can be transferred to any other trip offered (inshore or offshore) or put towards a reschedule date. Our goal is to take you fishing and experience this incredible fishery!
